Winter Porta Potty Rental in Northeast Ohio
A porta potty keeps working through a Northeast Ohio winter when the tank gets a non-toxic brine, the unit sits where the truck can reach it, and the path stays shoveled. From December through March, every unit we deliver gets the winter treatment at no extra charge.

Do porta potties freeze in winter?
Porta potty waste tanks can freeze below about 20°F without treatment. A salt-based, non-toxic brine added at delivery and at each weekly service keeps the tank liquid in normal Youngstown cold. Long stretches near 0°F can still slush the top layer, so busy sites add an extra service.
The seat and urinal surfaces stay usable, and the brine does not change how the unit works. Lake-effect towns such as Ashtabula, Conneaut, Chardon and Erie see more snow than Youngstown, so service routes there build in extra time after storms.
Can hand wash stations be used in winter?
Hand wash stations hold fresh water, which freezes at 32°F, so most winter job sites switch to sanitizer dispensers inside each toilet from December through March. Heated tents, indoor staging areas or a mild week can still use a station.
If a job requires handwashing under OSHA 1926.51(f), plan for a heated space with warm water, such as a job trailer sink, rather than an outdoor station that will freeze.
Where should a winter unit be placed?
A winter porta potty belongs on a spot the plow will not bury and the truck can reach after a storm: a driveway edge, an alley pad or a plowed corner of the lot. Face the door away from the prevailing west wind so snow does not drift against it.
- Keep a shoveled path from the truck spot to the unit.
- Do not place it at the bottom of a slope where meltwater freezes.
- Tell us if a gate freezes shut; the driver cannot service what they cannot reach.
- Mark the unit with a flag on large sites so plow drivers see it.
