Should I rent a restroom trailer or porta potties for my wedding?

A restroom trailer suits a wedding with a garden-hose water supply and a 20-amp outlet within 100 feet, because guests get real flush toilets, sinks and lights. Flushing porta potties with sinks suit sites with no water or power. Both look clean in photos when placed behind the reception.

How many restroom stalls does a wedding need?

A 4- to 5-hour wedding with a bar needs about 1 stall for every 50 guests, plus 1 extra. A 150-guest reception with drinks needs 4 stalls: a 2-stall trailer plus 2 flushing units works, or a larger trailer. Add 1 wheelchair-accessible unit when older or disabled guests attend.

Worked example: 120 guests, 5 hours, open bar. Base is 120 ÷ 50 = 3 (rounded up), add 1 for alcohol and 1 for the hour past 4 hours, so plan 5 stalls. Run your own numbers in the wedding and event calculator.

What does a restroom trailer need at a barn or backyard?

A restroom trailer needs level ground about 8 by 16 feet, a standard garden hose connection, and a 20-amp 110-volt outlet within 100 feet. Without power, a quiet generator can be added. The delivery truck needs a lane about 10 feet wide with no low branches.

  • Walk the route the truck will take, from the road to the spot, and note soft ground.
  • Gravel barn lanes common in Columbiana and Ashtabula counties work when dry; heavy rain may push the trailer closer to the road.
  • Place the trailer behind the tent or barn, with a lit path from the dance floor.
  • The trailer’s waste tank is pumped at pickup; no septic hookup is needed.

Questions renters ask

How far ahead should I book a wedding restroom trailer?

Book a restroom trailer as soon as the venue is set. Trailers are limited, and June, September and October Saturdays go first. Flushing units and standard units usually need 1 to 2 weeks’ notice.

Does someone stay with the trailer during the reception?

The trailer runs on its own once set up. We stock it with soap, paper towels and toilet paper for the event. Assign one family member or planner to check paper supplies halfway through the night.

Can the trailer have heat or air conditioning?

Our restroom trailers have climate control that runs on the 20-amp power supply. Hot water is an add-on for cold-season weddings; ask when you book.

Will the trailer fit up our driveway?

A trailer needs a lane about 10 feet wide and room to back in. Send a photo or a map pin of the drive and spot, and we will tell you before booking whether it fits.

Are flushing porta potties nice enough for a wedding?

Flushing units have a sink, mirror, foot-pump flush and a lid over the tank, so guests never look into it. For an elegant look, place them behind the tent with a lantern and a small mirror sign.
