How many porta potties does a construction site need?
A construction site needs 1 porta potty for 20 or fewer workers under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c), Table D-1. Crews of 20 or more need 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal for every 40 workers. Sites with 200 or more workers need 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers.
| Workers on site | OSHA minimum | Standard units (seat + urinal each) |
|---|---|---|
| 1–20 | 1 toilet | 1 |
| 21–40 | 1 seat + 1 urinal | 1 |
| 41–80 | 2 seats + 2 urinals | 2 |
| 81–120 | 3 seats + 3 urinals | 3 |
| 200 | 4 seats + 4 urinals | 4 |
The OSHA number is the legal minimum. Our recommendation adds 1 unit when the crew works 10-hour days or the site has more than one entrance far apart, because walking time costs more than the second unit. Mobile crews on road work also count: OSHA lets them skip a fixed toilet only when transportation to a nearby toilet is readily available. Confirm your site plan with your safety officer; this page is not legal advice.
What does weekly job site service include?
Weekly job site service includes a full pump-out of the 60-gallon waste tank, fresh deodorizer, a wash-down of the seat, urinal, walls and floor, and a toilet paper and sanitizer restock. Service days stay the same each week, so the superintendent always knows when the truck comes.
- Extra service: $85 per visit for large crews, hot weeks or inspection days.
- Locked units: your padlock is fine, but leave it open or share the code on service day.
- Handwashing: OSHA 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities where crews handle paints, coatings or other contaminants. A two-sided hand wash station covers that.
- Winter: from December through March tanks get a non-toxic brine so they do not freeze.
How does 28-day job site billing work?
Job site porta potty billing runs in 28-day cycles, not calendar months. A standard unit starts at $185 per 28 days with weekly service, plus a one-time $65 delivery and pickup charge. The cycle renews until you call for pickup, and billing stops the day you call.
Contractor accounts can be invoiced after the first paid order. Each job address is its own order, even when two sites sit a few streets apart, because each gets its own service stop. Moving a unit to a new spot on the same site is free when the driver is already there for service; a separate trip to move it is quoted before the move. Full numbers are in the porta potty pricing guide.
Where should a porta potty sit on a job site?
A job site porta potty belongs on firm, level ground within 25 feet of a spot where the service truck can park. Keep the unit clear of crane swing paths, excavations and material drops. In Youngstown’s older neighborhoods, alley access often works better than a busy front street.
- Face the door away from traffic and toward the work area.
- On new-build lots, set the unit near the driveway cut so it stays reachable after rain.
- On commercial sites, keep it out of fire lanes and accessible parking.
- Need it to travel with the crew? Ask about a towable unit on a trailer.

Questions renters ask
Do you invoice construction companies?
Contractor accounts can be invoiced net 30 after the first paid order. The first order goes on a credit or debit card so the unit can be scheduled right away. Send your company name and billing contact with the first order.
Can I get a porta potty on my job site today?
Same-day delivery runs Monday through Saturday when you call by 12 p.m. and a truck is open. The $95 rush fee shows on the quote. Have the site address, placement spot and on-site contact ready.
Is it cheaper if I only need it for a week?
A job site rental bills per 28-day cycle, so a 1-week or 3-week job costs the same first cycle as a 4-week job. Short jobs of 1–3 days can book an event rental instead, which starts at $225 with delivery and pickup included inside 30 miles.
Do I have to be on site for delivery?
Nobody needs to be on site if the placement spot is marked and the gate is open or the code is shared. Text a photo of the spot when you book. The driver texts a photo once the unit is set.
Can you service a porta potty another company dropped?
We service only our own units, because the tanks, parts and paperwork must match. If another company’s unit is failing, we can swap in our unit, and you can ask them to pick theirs up.
What happens if the unit gets damaged or tipped?
Call right away so we can clean up and swap the unit. Normal wear is on us. Damage from equipment, fire, vandalism or graffiti on your site is billed at repair or replacement cost, as listed in the rental terms.
